Welcome to the 1916 Sackville Street Art Project. Ireland is on the eve of a significant anniversary that is the centenary of the proclamation of the Irish Republic. There were more civilians killed during the 1916 Easter Rising than British Soldiers or Irish Volunteers. These men, women, and children who were killed have no memorial. They lie in graves in Dublin… some forgotten, until now…

All About the Project

The aim of 1916 Sackville Street Art Project (now known as O’Connell Street, Dublin) is to hold an exhibition of houses in any 3D art form commemorating the lives of the ordinary civilians that were killed in the 1916 Easter Rising. 485 people were killed in the Easter Rising 1916, 262 of these were civilians. The objective of the Art Project is to tell their story by constructing 262 3D art form houses representing each of the civilians killed.

Plan and develop a house design to represent a civilian.

Make the House with chosen art Material, e.g. pottery, wood, metal, glass, lego etc…

Exhibit your house at the 1916 Sackville Street Art Exhibition.

100 years ago today is the centenary of some of the 1916 Sackville Street Art Project civilian's death. Fr Peter McVerry himself came to our exhibition and gave a blessing to the homes of the civilians, some of them unknown.
